IDCP made a call for submissions through Stateville Speaks and Black and Pink. The initial call for submission requested eulogies, letters, cards, photographs, drawings and any forms of creative mourning for people who died within the Illinois state prisons. The following contributions also include submissions from outside of the original call. People submitted, for example, notes about the deaths of loved ones who died outside of prison, therefore expanding the project.
